A daytrip to Malaga…with kids

After days and days of sunshine and beaches, it may be time for a change of pace, and there’s no better way to satisfy your cultural cravings than by visiting the historic city of Malaga. Less than an hour away by car from Casa Eucalyptus, nothing quite compares to a fabulous day of sightseeing, museums and gastronomy in this coastal provincial capital.

Here are some of our top pic destinations in the city of Malaga for family activities that are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face…including the kids!

The Alcazaba is Malaga’s most iconic landmark and the best preserved Moorish fortified palace in all of Spain. Built in the 11th century by the Moors, the Alcazaba served as home to the Muslim rulers whilst protecting and defending the city from invaders. The whole family will enjoy strolling through this ancient complex with its impressive walls and rectangular towers as well as majestic gardens and courtyards. Enjoy spectacular views of the sea, port, and city from the towers.

At the top of the hill and above the Alcazaba, you’ll find the Castillo (castle) de Gibralfaro, a military outpost built in the 14th century for the purpose of protecting the Alcazaba below. You can get to the Gibralfaro by foot (@1 km), but we strongly recommend driving or grabbing the bus as it’s quite a steep climb even for athletic types! Walk along the ramparts surrounding this fortress and climb up the towers to experience the most amazing views. You can even purchase combo entrance passes for both Alcazaba and Gibralfaro.

Even the museums in Malaga are designed to delight both young and sort of young. For both big and small petrolheads and fashionistas, the Museo Automovilistico y de la Moda should not be missed! With over 100 pristinely restored cars from various eras matched with fashion trends and haut couture from each time period, this unique collection is without a doubt a marriage made in heaven!

The Museo Interactivo de la Musica offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for visitors of all ages. In addition to the enormous collection of musical instruments from all over the world and throughout the ages, this museum features unique “Red Rooms” where the whole family can try out different musical instruments! A perfect opportunity to discover the hidden virtuoso in your family!

A fantastic hidden gem is the Museo de la Imaginacion, a great interactive experience for the little ones as well as for the inner child in all of us. From visual illusions to fun games of light and shadow, make sure you’ve got plenty of storage space on your phone for all the hilarious pics! Highly recommended for kids as well as kids at heart!

Of course and as expected, Malaga is also a city full of beautiful parks and sprawling beaches, so in case there are not enough for you around Estepona and Marbella, don’t hesitate to check them out as well;)
